On The Walls: The Papel Picado Artist At Tortilla Flats
Our logo is taken from one of the extraordinary designs executed in paper by renowned papel picado artist Catalina Delgado Trunk.
As an artist, Ms. Delgado takes the cut paper tradition of the picado to a new level.
Ms. Delgado Trunk is also renowned for her knowledge of Mexican traditions and culture. She has previously lectured and taught on the tradition of Mexico, including at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.
Incorporating history, politics, myth, and cultural tradition, her work stimulates the mind and the eye. With the arrival of Europeans, indigenous practices and catholic traditions fused to form new customs. Her work incorporates symbolism that remains or possibly emerged after the fusion of indigenous practices and catholic traditions in the customs of the people as expressed in different regions of Mexico.
Ms. Delgado’s work appears in the collections of the de Young Museum (Diane & Sandy Besser Collection), San Francisco, California, The Museum of International Folk Art Santa Fe, New Mexico, the Museum of Fine Art, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the National Hispanic Cultural Center Albuquerque New Mexico.
