No Strings Attached

Featured Story:

Flamenco Bobby (aka el Poni de Jerez)

Bobby can be found frequenting Tortilla Flats on occasional Tuesday nights, charming the audience with his intricate guitar-playing and ability to make the crowd dance to their hearts’ desire. He’s sometimes accompanied by his son, Adam, and maestro, Esteban Peterson.

” With each note, they perform a story of love,
legacy, and a nod to the timeless art of flamenco. “

In the heart of California, a father and son find connection in the soulful melodies of flamenco. It all began in 1974 when Bobby, also known as el Poni de Jerez, fell in love with the genre. Bobby, a stranger to the world of music, stumbled upon its enchanting melodies quite unexpectedly. He was anything but fretful after attending a concert at UCSC, where his newfound passion was ignited. Bobby sought guidance from the show’s guitarist, embarking on a journey that led him across the pond for a year to Sevilla and Jerez de la Frontera in Spain. He later became known as El Poni de Jerez.

When Bobby’s son reached high school, the pitch-perfect opportunity arose to tune Adam (El Duquette) into the world of music. The joy of musical expression sparked in his son. El Duquette became proficient in his art, leading him to share the stage with renowned Spanish guitarists enticed to California’s shores. Their father-son bond deepened as they shared stages, their music echoing the harmony between them.

In recent years, they’ve graced the colorful surroundings at Tortilla Flats, with maestro, Esteban Peterson. With each note, they perform a story of love, legacy, and a nod to the timeless art of flamenco. Through their music, father and son prove that the strings of a guitar can bridge generations, and perhaps even inspire other families to tune into their off-the-charts love for music.
